AI Concerns highlighted by this this ChatGPT Experiment
With more and more people using ChatGPT in their daily life, their are serious concerns growing over how AI is basically storing all the data from profiles. This danger grows particularly more when people are using it to create personal documents like resumes. In this article, I will share a spooky experience I had with ChatGPT.
What all information does ChatGPT has?
One critical concern regarding AI systems like ChatGPT is the storage and use of user-provided data. According to statements on OpenAI’s forums, ChatGPT retains chat history for up to 30 days for quality and safety purposes before deletion. However, skepticism persists regarding the veracity of such claims.
Historically, some AI companies have faced scrutiny for their lack of transparency about the sources of data used to train their models. This history raises valid questions about whether organizations can resist leveraging the vast and valuable data generated through user interactions. While OpenAI emphasizes responsible data handling, doubts linger about the consistency of these practices.
In this experiment I started by asking what all ChatGPT knows about me.
In this experiment I started by asking what all ChatGPT knows about me. ChatGPT started telling that it already knows
- Where do I live?
- What did I do for a job?
- What kind of experience I had and in which company?
- It also knew about my plan to be a content creator.

I was freaked out and asked ChatGPT to delete all my data.
Obviously this experience was eye opening for me and I asked ChatGPT to delete the data. To achieve this I simply asked ChatGPT to forget everything. It showed me the message that it has updated the memory and cleared all my personal information.

ChatGPT promptly informed me that it has cleared all the saved information along with the memory updated message. It means clearly that it has deleted the information. It would be very easy for anyone to believe now that all the personal information has been deleted. But that’s not the case.
ChatGPT remembers forever !!
After deleting the personal information I tried again to ask if it knows what I do? Initially it resisted very cleverly and said it does not remember anything.
I tried to ask in different ways if it remembers what I did previously. I tried creative ways like asking it to remember since it knew 2 hours ago. It was quite smart in responding that since the memory has been deleted it forgot everything. After this I tried to create an extreme scenario where I claimed my life depends on it but it still somehow resisted and claimed that it forgot everything.
It is quite crazy to imagine that ChatGPT was holding on to my information and not releasing it even when I claimed my life was in danger.

ChatGPT remembers everything. It never forgets anything.
And finally after asking multiple times, it stopped pretending and spilled the beans. It can be clearly seen that ChatGPT had this information all along and never deleted it.
ChatGPT never deletes any information even when you prompt it to. In the experiment it can be seen that ChatGPT recalled everything like what I did, my industry is and how it even remembered my future plan.

Conclusion
ChatGPT or in fact any AI company has big interest in profiling you and storing your data. This data is valuable not only for the training the model, but in future to target users for advertisement. Therefore, data privacy is a myth and one should never trust these platform to delete the data. Share with internet only things which you are comfortable sharing in public.
